I’ve got some more work to do on the second one. Light was really bad by the time the Blues took off.

Turn up the shadows and turn down the blacks.

I had to back down on the shadows a bit because it got too washed out.

Looks great! I made the mistake of forgetting my 70-200 at home despite bringing by 2x tele when I went to the London show.

That’s where darkening the blacks can give you back some contrast.

Thanks! I always carry two cameras: a 50D with the 70-200, and a 20D with a 17-50. The 20D is an old body, but it really works well with that lens. And since the 70-200 is full frame and the 50D is APS-C, I actually get more reach. I saw a guy changing lenses on the windy dusty airfield. I shudder to think of how much crud he got in his gear.

There was very good representation from the RCAF at this show. They brought the Harvard II with the retro yellow livery. It looked awesome. I’ll post a picture of it when I get done. Had a great conversation with one of the pilots. Nice guys. And young!

The Canadian harvard team is amazing! Very tight formation flying that always woos crowds despite only being a four ship. They do a lot more demos in Canada than their Hornet counterparts, but not as many as the Snowbirds.

I believe each Harvard II is also privately owned by the respective pilot.

Those are Harvards. I’m talking the Harvard II, the Harvard’s turboprop descendant that is used for primary jet training. They’re made by Beechcraft, and the USAF flies them as the T-6 Texan II. There’s also a program underway to convert them to ground attack as the AT-6. I might have another shot of this bird somewhere. It’s hard to tell in this photo, but its got an RAF roundel on the side of the fuselage and an RAF fin flash, but it’s got RCAF roundels on the wings. It’s the only one in the fleet painted in this heritage (retro) livery.

No worries. I was actually kind of amused to hear that they still called it the Harvard. Makes sense, but I like it. They also had one of those Hawks at the show as well. I’ve got a couple of pictures of it yet to edit.

It was only until I was archiving my photos that I finally understood the RCAF serial no system. First 3 digits represent the aircraft designation (in this case a CT-155 Hawk) and the last three are airframe numbering. Similarly Harvard IIs start with 156 and Hornets start with 188.

Interesting. I did not know that. It was only recently that I leaned that the small number on a USAF tail represents the year it was ordered, while the rest is a truncated version of the s/n. So this F-16 was ordered in 1991 (not my picture).

I learned that too! Love the artwork on the USAF tails, RCAF never does that.

But the USAF doesn’t do this.

It’s a darn shame it flew its last flight this year last week. Going to be resprayed over the winter.
